Navratri is a festival symbolizing the nine nights of battle between good and evil, culminating in the victory of good on the tenth day. During this period, Divine Mother is worshipped and we reflect on all her positive virtues which include power, energy, and wisdom.
Maitreya Dadashreeji shares profound understanding on the 9 auspicious nights and the 10th day of celebration. See Translation below:
“Let's first understand the importance of Navaratri when you are on a spiritual path. Why do these nine nights exist? What is the importance of this? Why does the Ashram invite everyone to take part in this festival and inspire them to do so? Creation was made in these nine days. The journey of the universe from zero to hundred, that journey is of nine days. The universe develops from a childhood state of confusion to a mature state of balanced energies. From nothingness to everything, it all happened in these nine days!
The first three days are the childhood state where nobody understands what is happening. One can't see right from wrong. The energy of the nascent creation is this way everywhere across the planet. One can't see right and wrong because there are both types of energy -good and bad, impure and Divine, which ate active during this time. And you cannot understand the difference! For three days you are in a state of confusion. A regular individual cannot make out the difference between right and wrong. This is the case every where, in the entire creation. And you are wandering in darkness. You are not aware of who is sitting around you. So, the impure energies and Gods alike are wandering everywhere. Therefore, the first three days, any type of energy can go anywhere. So, no matter how pious your house or your temple is, mixed energy forms can come there too. Slowly, the mixed energies intensity reduces, but for the first three days, it is very intense! This is not published in any book. The Gurus will know this. This is why I am explaining this to you, so that you can understand it, that yes, it happens! Mixed Energies come and go, so what you should do in these three days is that you Hold on to the Divine strongly!! Hold on to Shakti (Divine Feminine Energy). In the state of Nothingness, Shakti is fully awakened during this time! This is why Jaagaran (staying awake) is done especially at nights. You don't fall asleep as there are these all sorts of energies going around. Just keep chanting God's name, so that the environment around you stays Divine. This is the importance of it. So, for three days, even we advice to follow a routine or sadhana— about what to eat, where to spend your time & all this is mentioned when the big Navaratri happens.
So, for the first three days you remain in strong association with Maa (Your Divine Mother), in prayers and when as you progress with time, the intensity reduces. Maa's (Shakti's) form slays the demons. When the ninth day arrives, all the demons or bad energies are sent back to prison.
On the tenth day (Vijaya Dashami), everybody is blessed with Divine Grace to do in their lives what they need to do from here on - whatever it is that you set your intent and resolve to do.
So, these nine nights are also very important for your spiritual growth and the state of your spiritual state deepens. You prepare a lot for this spiritual state! Fasting, preparing your body, connecting with Maa. Bad energies may come through food too. So, keep your diet Sattvic at this time. These observances are mentioned in scriptures as well.
While you may live in accordance with the scriptures, most importantly we suggest you keep yourself connected with the Divine. This is why we have Navaratri!
You have been doing this for so many years while being associated with the Maitribodh Family, so this time as well, when Maa's (Divine Mother’s) form is established at your place, with this deeper understanding , we will partake in the festivities wholeheartedly!
MaitriBodh Parivaar is a family, isn't it?
so let's celebrate Life like a festival! That is why Maitribodh exists, to celebrate good and rejoice in life!.”
